A brief introduction

I have 23 years experience in Education as a classroom teacher, online tutor, Head of Department, Assistant Head, SENDCo, Head Teacher and Education Advisor. I have BA Hons in English and Drama, Film and Television, PGCE English, MEd in SEND and Specialist Qualification for Headship. I currently English Language and English Literature successfully for KS2, KS3, GCSE and A level pupils online, as well as literacy for adult education and community learning. I am an experienced SENDCo and hold CPT3A (RQTU) Level 7 qualification that enables me to assess pupils for examination access requirements and write reports to support EHCP applications. I have CELTA and experience teaching Cambridge ESOL from Starters to Proficiency, and IELTS for university entry. My most recent student succeeded in her IELTS and is now studying to be a neurosurgeon in London. I have experience marking IGCSE Second Language examination papers and I was commended by SQA for the accuracy and clarity of my coursework marking.
My teaching style is bespoke – I plan and deliver lessons based on the learning needs and requirements of my pupils. I am patient and encouraging, but I provide challenging questions, material and resources that ensure that my pupils become independent thinkers who make excellent progress.I have spent my career teaching in state schools and independent schools, as well as overseas.
I live on a remote Scottish island and, now semi-retired, I work as an online tutor. I love teaching students, whatever their age and ability, and I am not ready to hang up my boots just yet! When I’m not tutoring, I love to walk my dogs on the beach, read and play my clarinet.
